Among the things to be thankful for this Fall, drawchange gives thanks to local illustrator, erin the great. She has pledged a portion of the proceeds from the sales of her newest book, Mr. Mailbox Man Goes to Work, as a donation to drawchange!Illustrated and written by Erin herself, Mr. Mailbox Man Goes to Work, is a story told completely through illustrations, challenging young readers to do the actual storytelling themselves. Without any words of its own, the details of the illustrations allow children to use their own creativity and sense of interpretation to narrate the story. It challenges their varying levels of vocabulary and comprehension of plot. Character dynamics are open for young readers as they create their own narrative interpretation of the illustrated story.
We were so excited to have erin the great share her newest book with the drawchange children recently. The children could barely sit still as they waited for their turn to create the story behind Mr. Mailbox Man Goes to Work. Erin writes:
“I had so much fun visiting the shelter with @drawchange last night! I gave each child a copy of my book and they got to write their own ending to the story. Mr mailbox man got to go to the zoo, got married, new characters were invented and the mouse even got a best friend! Thank you to the friends who helped me donate these books. The kids loved them! My favorite was listening to one child read the wordless book and be the storyteller.”
